The genesis of elizabethjohn, or ‘EJ’, began in the spring of 2005 with a modest two barrels and a vision for the next generation. This second release of Petite Sirah captures the essence of the remarkable 2013 vintage: opulent, layered and incredibly complex. Arguably worthy of an MFV designation with its purity and balance, this expression of Petite Sirah continues to enhance the profile of the varietal.
The original vineyard at Marston was famed for our hundred year vines of Petite Sirah planted by horse and plow, and we have been on the hunt for a fabulous source ever since. We finally found the perfect spot in Calistoga, and are thrilled to share our EJ expression of this beautiful site and favorite varietal. (Eight barrels produced)
Tasting Notes
“A huge bouquet of blueberry, dark chocolate, and vanilla leads into a layered mouth of fresh blackberries, black raspberries and spice. Supple tannins and a concentrated mouth give way to a long, sweet finish.”
